Discover Blacktown Disability Sports Centre

The new Blacktown Disability Sports Centre (BDSC) is a standout when it comes to inclusive, disability-friendly sporting and recreation opportunities in Sydney. Located within Blacktown International Sports Park, this facility is purpose-built for people of all abilities, from wheelchair users to athletes with hidden disabilities and delivers on access, comfort and inclusivity.

What makes it accessible and inclusive

Purpose-built from the ground up accessibility isn’t an after-thought it was the core objective. The building was designed by Lahznimmo Architects around universal-design principles: that means wide circulation spaces, ample room for manoeuvring, and automatic doors in key areas for ease of access.

The Centre offers customised amenities, including accessible toilets and full Changing Places facilities. That’s a major benefit for people with complex care needs, carers, or anyone requiring safer, dignity-preserving facilities.

Two large courts support a broad range of disability-friendly sports including wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball and more.

The Centre is co-located with Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) which offers a strength-and-conditioning gym and aquatic recovery facilities. This makes it ideal not just for sport but for holistic wellbeing, rehab, training and community connection.

The Centre was developed in partnership with Disability Sports Australia and funded by the NSW Government Office of Sport, reflecting a commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and long-term community benefit.

What’s on offer for the community

For AccessAccom tenants, many of whom may have accessibility requirements, BDSC offers more than just sport. It’s a gateway to social connection, physical wellbeing, community participation and personal development. Some of the practical benefits:

  • Regular opportunities to engage in organised adaptive sports.
  • Access to a facility designed for dignity, comfort and inclusion with accessible change rooms, Changing Places, easy access entry, supportive amenities.
  • Proximity to allied-health, rehab and recovery services via BEST.
  • A welcoming community environment where people can interact, socialise, and enjoy sport alongside peers.

The Blacktown Disability Sports Centre officially opened in October 2025 located at 81 Eastern Road, Rooty Hill 2766 (inside Blacktown International Sports Park).
